The
Sound of the Steel Guitar Returns!
In this album we present some (but not all) of the legends who
popularized this “most-Hawaiian” instrument. Included are some “classic
performances,” a long over looked recording and several new selections
created “especially” for this album.
While searching through the audio
vaults of the 49th State record company, Aloha Joe® stumbled
upon an early recording of “SAND,” by steel guitar player, Benjamin
“Benny” Rogers. In Benny’s rendition we hear familiar musical strains
that have been included in modern recordings of this song. This is the
version of the time-honored classic that many players emulated. We are
excited to bring this musical moment back to life.
Additionally, we include past
performers, David Burrows, M.K. Moke, Mike Hanapi,
Sol Hoopii, Joe DeRigo, Jules Ah See and Tau Moe. The present and
near-present are represented by Jerry Byrd, Billy Hew Len, Barney Isaacs,
Casey Olsen, Duke Ching, Alan Akaka and Henry Allen. The future of the
art-form is represented by Ken Emerson,
Bobby Ingano, Bob Brozman and Greg Sardinha.
Each plays with a different style, yet
in each there is the reminiscent sound of yesterday
and a time when a single chord on the Hawaiian steel guitar conjured up
images of a
trip to a tropical paradise.
